The City of Newton is a collection of 13 diverse villages about seven miles west of Boston. This suburban community is home to 85,146 residents and is known for an excellent quality of life. Newton was recognized as one of the best Small Cities to Live in America by Money Magazine in 2012.
Newton is home to the New Philharmonia Orchestra of Massachusetts and the Newton Symphony Orchestra. Major employers in the area include Boston College and Newton-Wellesley Hospital. Newton has relatively few crime incidents per capita, and was noted for excellent city safety several times between 1999 and 2008.
Newton public schools enjoy an excellent reputation. A new state-of-the-art high school was recently built at a cost of $197 million.
While many residents of Newtown work in the immediate area, those who commute to Boston can use public transportation through the MBTA’s Green Line and bus services. Newton’s easy access to Rt’s 90, 9, and 128 also make it a popular commuting town. And the shopping districts of Newton Center and Chestnut Hill are popular destinations for residents and those in surrounding communities.
